logo design & brand guide for author James Ciccone
American Novelist James Ciccone creates vivid storylines in the genre of historical fiction. Rebranding personally and starting his coordinating publishing house, he wanted a logo with a story of its own. A visual element of importance to him was the scythe, a tool used for harvesting crops. The goal was to find a way to unite this tool & imagery of literature. I tried balancing the scythe with a book in different forms but we felt that it was made even more powerful being carried or used by a man. Then, the idea to turn the end of the scythe into a pencil became so obvious. James’ author logo is the standalone man with scythe/pencil and we created a version where the man is coming out of the book for the Wang & Jean Publishers logo.
